Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This policy explains how HeyMatty (Matt Brookes, freelance web designer and marketer, based in the UK) collects and uses your personal information when you visit heymatty.co.uk or get in touch. I’m the “controller” of that information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Who to contact

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email hello@heymatty.co.uk.

What I collect

  • Contact form and emails. Your name, email address, what you need, your current website (if you share it) and anything you write in your message.
  • Basic technical data. Like most websites, my hosting provider’s servers keep short-term logs that can include your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited. These are used to keep the site secure and working.

I don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies on this site, and I don’t sell your information to anyone.

How I use it, and why I’m allowed to

  • To reply to your enquiry and talk about your project. The lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me.
  • If you become a client, to deliver the work and handle invoices and records. The lawful bases are performing our contract and meeting legal obligations, such as keeping tax records.
  • To keep the website secure and running properly (legitimate interests).

Who it’s shared with

Your information is only shared with the service providers that make the site and my email work: my web hosting provider (Namecheap) and my email provider. Some of these providers may store data outside the UK; where that happens they use legally approved safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations. I’ll only share your information with anyone else if the law requires it.

How long I keep it

Enquiries that don’t turn into work are deleted within 2 years. If you become a client, project and billing records are kept for 6 years after our work ends, as required for tax purposes.

Cookies

This site doesn’t set cookies for visitors. WordPress only sets functional cookies when someone logs in to manage the site. If that changes (for example, if I add analytics), I’ll update this policy and ask for your consent where needed.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it’s used, and to ask for it to be transferred to you or someone else. Email hello@heymatty.co.uk and I’ll respond within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first, so please get in touch.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
